A NEW WAY OF POLICING

Edmonton Police Service

Today (April 20,2007) marks a major milestone for the City of Edmonton Police Service (EPS_ as it launches its new way of delivering Front-Line Patrol Services to the Citizens of Edmonton, and, in doing so, move to a five-division city with the introduction of the southwest division, as well as 20 city wide policing districts.

"The Members of our organization have worked hard for nearly two years to build a unique policing model that would result in a better response to community needs, an overall reduction in crime and disorder, and the ability to demonstrate that we truly care," says chief Mike Boyd.

"Each of the districts has its own priorities in terms of what the crime and disorder problems are, when and where issues are occurring, who the repeat or chronic offenders are, who is most at risk of being victimized, and which community groups the police need to partner with to create sustainable change," says Boyd. "It's the most effective form of policing through collaborative problem solving."

More information about the new policing model can be found online at the Edmonton Police Service website: www.police.edmonton.ab.ca
